Purpose of this center
Langa Library maintains this Trust & Policy Center to make its operating principles visible to readers, contributors, rights holders, browser extension reviewers, and future institutional partners.
A digital library is not only a collection of files. It is also a public system of access, responsibility, preservation, correction, attribution, and care. These pages describe the standards by which Langa Library intends to operate.
Foundational commitments
- Langa Library preserves the integrity of original source texts and does not silently alter original works through reading or translation tools.
- Translation assistance is presented as assistance for reading and study, not as an automatic public translated edition.
- Public publication of translated or contributed material requires rights review, attribution where required, and quality review.
- Reader privacy, user control, and clear disclosure are essential to the service.
- Copyright, public domain status, licensing, takedown requests, and uncertain rights claims are treated as governance matters, not technical afterthoughts.
- Community contributions should improve the collection and must be original, public domain, licensed, or otherwise rights-cleared.
Policy areas
- The Privacy Policy explains how Langa Library handles information related to reading, search, translation, support, and future account features.
- The Extension Privacy Policy explains how the Langa Translation Companion browser extension handles selected text and current Reader chapter text.
- The Copyright & Content Rights page explains how Langa Library approaches public domain materials, licensed works, metadata, covers, and translations.
- The Takedown Requests page provides a process for rights holders to request review, restriction, correction, or removal.
- The Translation Policy defines the boundary between private translation assistance, machine translation previews, human review, and public translated editions.
- The Contributor Policy sets expectations for metadata corrections, original covers, OCR reports, author identity corrections, and future community submissions.
